In 2014, an accused murderer in Nevada was caught on video setting fire to a pet shop. Animals were rescued by the Fire department, while the flames were growing near animal cages. Kirk Bills subsequently opened fire in Las Vegas and Henderson in March 2020.

For the pet shop fire case, the accused murderer in Nevada and the store owner were arrested from Indiana according to the Police. Gina Greisen of Nevada Voters for Animals said that they are lucky to save 27 dogs that would have been dead due to the incident. It was due to the surveillance systems that assisted in capturing the incident.

It has been reported by the Department of Corrections that the store owner Gloria Lee was sentenced from 5 to 14 years in prison under the charges of insurance fraud, arson, and animal cruelty. Whereas Bills received a sentence of 4 to 10 years in prison. He was later released in 2018.

In March 2020 after the fire incident police tracked Bills in Minnesota. One alleged victim testified in front of the jury that he and Bills didn’t like each other and Bills shot him in the legs and back of his head. The victim lost his eye in the shooting incident and still suffers from the injuries every day.

Bills is on house arrest with electronic monitoring while being out of custody as he posted bond. Bills has been granted permission by a judge to visit his son who was in a car crash in Illinois. Bills is currently facing 58 charges. A motion has been filed by the defense team to remove prosecutor Nicole Cannizzaro due to her position in the Nevada State Legislature and the possibility of conflict of interest. However, the decision is pending.
