Reno police are working on an investigation of the death of a man whose body was discovered in the Truckee River west of downtown.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Friday, close to the Booth Street Bridge; it was handled as water rescue.
A person was walking east of the bridge when they noticed the body in the river east of Idlewild Park and called the authorities.
A police spokesman said the body was not in the river for a long time; the case was defined as ‘odd’ but not suspicious.
The man had identification on him, but for now, the authorities are not releasing his name.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office is going to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Such cases can be quite complex until the final autopsy results show the reason for death.
There are situations where people lose their lives because of someone else’s malice intent. That is the case of a wrongful death (when a third party intentionally harmed someone, wanting to end their life).
Nevada law gives the surviving relatives the right to file a lawsuit and seek compensation claims for the wrongful death of their loved one.
There is nothing that can bring back the lost life of a close person, but the claim will ease up the future of their family.
