With companies like Uber and Lyft, there is no excuse for drunk driving. Not that ever really was. When someone gets behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs, it’s going to end in tragedy. And, this is exactly what happened two weeks ago in Las Vegas. A drunk driver kills 1 and injures others.
32-year old Gabriel Haas was driving his Tesla Model 3 when he crashed into a Honda CRV at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Soft Breeze Drive. He ran a red light and hit the SUV who was trying to turn onto Soft Breeze Drive.
Haas proceeded to crash into a retaining wall nearby where 4 men were sitting. One of the men was sent to the local hospital with injuries and has been listed in critical condition. 2 other men on the wall suffered minor injuries.
The man driving the Honda CRV was a 70-year old man. He also was transported to the hospital with critical injuries. The passenger in the CRV, a local 62-year old woman, was killed in the crash.
Haas was sent to University Medical Center with minor injuries. He was later arrested and charged with 10 counts of DUI and reckless driving. He has now also been charged with a DUI resulting in death or serious bodily harm.
At the time of the first hearing, Haas was still in the hospital recovering from his injuries. The judge declined to set bail until the defendant could appear at an arraignment scheduled for later in the month.
