LAS VEGAS, NV – Two 16-year-old girls were struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver Monday evening while they were crossing in a crosswalk near Twain Avenue and Maryland Parkway.
The suspected drunk driver, 38-year-old Ebone Whitaker, hit the two teens and kept driving, eventually colliding with a tree and a traffic pole further down the street. The tree fell on top of two nearby cars, whose occupants were uninjured.
The two teenage victims have been identified as Las Vegas residents Citiali Mora and Nelly Amaya-Ramirez, according to KTNV. One teen died at the scene, while the other died soon after at Sunrise Hospital.
Whitaker was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries caused by the collision with the tree and traffic pole. Officials charged her with driving under the influence resulting in death.
