Multi-car collisions are less frequent, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less dangerous.
According to law enforcement, four cars were involved in a multi-car crash on February 24, 2021, right after 7am. Five people were sent to the hospital on Wednesday morning, with two drivers being critically injured.
Ashlee Wellman, a Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper, said they saw a white Lexus driving carelessly, over speeding, and breaking many traffic signals. The driver of the Lexus ES 350 has been identified as Tata Cheatham, a 30 year-old-woman, by the authorities. She was driving at 80mph before the crash, even though the speed limit for the area is 35 mph.
The Lexus collided with three other vehicles. It hit the left side of a 2006 Nissan Armanda and then the left side of a 2004 Nissan Sentra. This caused both vehicles to lose control. The Lexus then hit a 2006 Hyundai Sante Fe and rotated eastbound where the driver was thrown from the car and critically injured.
The drivers of the Armanda, Sentra, and Santa Fe were aged 52, 82, and 20 respectively. The driver of the Santa Fe has been identified as Marcel Lopez.
Shortly after, the trooper was called to the site of the accident. Five individuals were taken to the University Medical Center. Both Cheatham and Lopez are in critical condition at the University Medical Center’s Trauma Center.
Misael Parra, an LVMPD Officer, has said that it’s too early to state if impairment was a factor in the crash. The visual evidence from pictures and video clearly shows that this tragic accident happened due to reckless driving by Cheatham, which has caused major injuries to the involved parties.
